Unbroken is a hope-filled story of a mother and a daughter, and their unwavering grip for life; reminding us that the human spirit is unbreakable. Grounded in their faith, together they battle a life-threatening disease that would forever change the course of their lives. In this chronicle you will hear these warriors’ roar, holding on to life and God's promises. Dr. Egli Colón Stephens digs into memory weaving stories of her cultura, familia, and tradiciones that armed her with the tools to survive the challenges of life. Instinctually, she began to write about the journey God had brought her from, and a decade later, here it is. Like life, which is not linear, this story takes many shifts and unexpected turns. Facing the biggest challenge to date, through her daughter’s life challenge, Egli learns what it means to be courageous, resilient and relentless while leaning on her community for prayers. Their story has over 53,000 views on Telemundo and over 32,000 visits on their CaringBridge blog. They have also been featured on NBC News Latino, Daily News, The Morning Show in Australia, Vivala, ABC News, DNAinfo, Women’s Health, Us Weekly and Vogue.
This book is truly a gift!
I could not put this book down! It truly and vividly took me through a journey of resilience, faith and courage. I laughed, I cried, I was intrigued the whole way through and I am inspired. Also, this book has served to be such a gift to me. This year, I made a promise to myself to enhance my prayer life and faith. This book came into my life right on time to show me through Egli and Natalia – how that is truly done. Thank you so much for the gift of this book. Thanks for sharing your story! Thanks for your faith, courage and resilience! I am your #1 fan forever and forever rooting for you.
Moving and life-giving!
I was transported as I read this book. I was there with them as they hailed cabs in NYC on their way to the hospital. I felt the fear and pain of a mother handling the fragility of life of her only child. I was in awe many times wondering "how did she handle all this?" Of course the answer is made clear continually. Every page is a glory to God as she tells the story of holding on, praying, believing, and seeing the best of out every situation, setback or surprise. The story, though agonizing at times, was so filled with life. I always felt better after reading a few pages. I think it's the feeling of renewed hope. That's the central theme for me. Egli teaches you ways to renew your hope in the midst of crisis, fear, confusion. Bonus: you get a glimpse at the Dominican culture in NYC :)
You can't have fear & Faith at the same time!
As a mother this book touched me deeply so much that many times I felt the pain, frustration, anguish, yet the only thing that hold you together is faith. Do yourself a favor read this true life story of faith, courage and determination you will not be disappointed you pick it up. At the end you will feel a rush of gratitude, inspiration and more importantly a new perspective about your life.
Thank you Egli and Natalia for being such an amazing warriors.
A great read!
I could not wait to start reading it. Several chapters in and my immediate reaction was “People need to read this book!” It’s full of culture and savory moments. Reading it made me feel at home! Dr. Egli Stephen’s detailed descriptions of her upbringing reminded me of my own and suddenly, I felt homesick. Her use of Hispanic words here and there, her love for literature, reading, and her interests in learning about Hispanic writers, gave me a sense of belonging. I could relate. She was born for this journey. I am happy with my purchase. If you want to experience family love, absolute faith, and learn about your own strength through someone else’s eye, get this book! You will not regret it and who knows... you might get inspired. It is worthy!
